Job Details for the QC/Lab Manager Position

The QC/Lab Manager is responsible for all aspects of Lab Management and Quality Control during their shift/operational area including safety and employee satisfaction.

This position requires a seasonal commitment during July – September, which involves 75 straight days of work, 13 hours/day, 7 days/week, and probably night shift. For the balance of the year this is a day shift position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Manage all lab operations and technical Quality Control Standards. Ensure temperature, cook time, net weight, etc is in compliance at all times. Repair lab equipment when necessary.
• Overall QC management – lab, QC systems, data analysis using Excel and Access, procedures and processes.
• Directly supervises employees in the Quality department; including 3 Supervisors and 140 lab employees during high season.
• Regularly works on the floor to provide hands-on management
• Manage compliance with all regulatory and company defined food safety and sanitation standards, systems, procedures and practices. Maintain an effective and compliant HACCP program. Ensure effective Trace-Recall system and protocol.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret in-process and analytical data to measure quality goals and initiate action for quality improvement.
• Establish and maintain ingredient and packaging quality management programs and ensure that a calibrated sensory program is in place for the facility.
• Support the design and implementation of plant tests and product start-ups.
• Maintain a qualified technical staff. Provide training and career development opportunities.
• Educate plant personnel in the fundamentals of basic food chemistry, basic applied statistics (SPC), GMP’S, sanitation and regulatory requirements.
