Description: The Technical Services Manager is responsible for a range of activities related to technical and regulatory issues.
Efforts are directed and completed by the Technical Services Manager in order to assure the products are safe, consistent and meet regulatory requirements. This position manages a staff of technical personnel who provide support in these areas to a range of departments.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Manage the technical staff by communicating direction, objectives and feedback.
  • Work with the HACCP Manager to assure that all processes within the company have been defined, have thorough hazard analyses and have relevant CCPs
  • Work with the Microbiologist on issues related to microbial types, levels and control for ingredients, WIPs, finished products and the processing environment.
  • Work with others to identify weaknesses and/or inconsistencies in food safety programs
  • Assist in making final decisions on the status of ingredients, WIPs and finished products with potentially hazardous components
  • Act as Recall Manager. As the highest priority, organize the recall team as soon as any potentially serious food safety issue is identified in distributed finished product.
  • Manage organic activities to assure compliance with USDA National Organic Program and international organic requirements
  • Oversee certification programs: Kosher Certification, Non-GMO Project.
  • Manage the development of written food quality guidelines.
  • Work with sourcing to assure the vendor approval process.
  • Manage and assist with the preparation of technical export documents and customer specifications.
  • Work with external regulatory consultants to obtain regulatory information.
  • Manage technical activities related to package development and redesign including maintenance of the ingredient database (Genesis) and reviews completed to assure compliance with ingredient statements, nutrition facts and claim.
  • Supervise several technical positions: 4 - 6 degreed staff members.
