Description: |
A well known post harvest packaging company based in California is searching for an experienced Sr. Food Scientist that will head up the activities of our client’s Product and Research Laboratory as well as develop new applications for both internal and external customers. This position will also Identify and develop applications that solve current supply chain issues and are valued in the marketplace.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of post harvest science and practice as currently utilized in the produce industry.
- Applicable knowledge of modified atmosphere systems and benefits.
- Familiarity with design and application of a wide range of packaging systems, both flexible and rigid.
- Effective interaction with customers (both existing and potential) in order to understand their needs and deliver targeted solutions.
- Ability to articulate business opportunity for all technology initiatives to determine project priorities.
- Coordinate lab experiments including protocol and method development.
- Execute experiments, perform analyses and document results.
- Serve as internal and external expert and modified atmosphere solutions for the packaging of fresh produce.
- Post harvest experience to develop new produce package solutions that drive increased value through enhanced quality and shelf life.
- Maintain and support key contractual relationship with Chiquita and other licensees.
- Explore and expand products beyond current product portfolio. (Horticulture, etc.)
- Write, execute and provide technical reports on biological trials to demonstrate improved value creation compared to other strategies.
- Evaluate complimentary strategies for preventing secondary defects such as mold growth in modified atmosphere packages.
- Stay abreast of and test new materials that may enhance or compete.
- Maintain existing product specifications and write new ones where necessary.
- Research Associate and additional temporary staff as required.
